Rachael Mew

Watersports Instructor to Yachtmaster

I came to UKSA after finishing school where I studied Sports Development and Sports Studies.

“I finished school back in 2011 and have always loved sports so I made the decision to enrol on a course at UKSA to do my Watersports Instructor Training. I really enjoyed it and was delighted to have the chance to stay on with UKSA for a couple of years after I qualified as an instructor of watersports.

The opportunities sailing qualifications give you are brilliant and in 2013 I was able to travel to China to work at the Beijing Sailing Centre.

After working in China, I decided to return to UKSA in 2014 in order to do my Yachtmaster Offshore, with the help of the Milo Hanlon Bursary and later qualify as a Cruising Instructor.

“It is the best way to travel the world and earn money at the same time!”

I worked for MedSailors as Lead Skipper

I have completed of my third season working for MedSailors in Croatia, where I was promoted to Lead Skipper. We provided sailing holidays for 20-35 year olds and I love it. Every week I welcomed a new set of guests to the fleet of six skippered yachts I managed, taking them along the Croatian coast line and to different islands in the Adriatic.

UKSA helped me gain qualifications, leadership and responsibility, helping me to progress my career and grow as a person.

My job gives me a fantastic lifestyle

The best part about my job was it gave me a fantastic lifestyle and I got to see so many beautiful places every day whilst meeting new people along the way. It is the best way to travel the world and earn money at the same time!”
