MCA/RYA Yachtmaster Offshore / Yachtmaster Coastal Preparation

The RYA Yachtmaster Offshore course teaches the skills required to skipper safely on offshore passages by day and night. This includes passage planning, preparation for sea, yacht handling under sail and power, pilotage, as well as adverse weather conditions and emergencies. Training is provided during the first five days of the course, with examinations taking place on the final two days.

Pre-requisite experience:

  • 2,500 logged miles
  • 50 days at sea
  • 5 days as skipper
  • 5 passages of more than 60 miles including two overnight and two as skipper
  • VHF Operators certificate and First Aid certificate
  • You must be 18 or over to hold a Yachtmaster certificate

Duration: 7 Days

Training towards: Officer of the Watch (Yachts less than 3000gt)

Examination and assessment: The course is examined by practical assessment.
