Mark Davey

Professional Yachtmaster to UKSA skipper

Taking one of UKSA’s many courses can help you secure a rewarding job and embark on an exciting career in the maritime industry. Mark Davey, a graduate from our Professional Yachtmaster Offshore course, decided to stay on to work for us and shares his story:

“I used to be an aeronautical engineering manager. After taking voluntary redundancy, I decided to follow my passion for sailing and make it a career.” This is when Mark discovered UKSA – the organisation who turned his dream into reality. Now a cruising instructor and Farr skipper with UKSA, Mark explains, “The best part of my job is teaching people, giving me the opportunity to watch them grow and succeed”. In spite of the perilous British winter – the only drawback of his job – Mark still loves what he is doing: “I work on a boat rather than being stuck in an office – what more could I possibly ask for?”

“The best part of my job is teaching people, giving me the opportunity to watch them grow and succeed.”

My advice – network and socialise as you never know when you will meet your future employer

Our students are always impressed by the inspirational tutors and unrivalled industry guidance available at UKSA. Looking back on his time spent training for his Professional Yachtmaster Offshore with us, Mark reflects, “My favourite part was working with lots of different skippers, which meant we got a wide and diverse training package and learnt a great deal.”

He would advise those about to start a course with UKSA to make sure they “Network and socialise – it’s great to meet lots of different people and you never know, you may even meet your future employer!”
