Gregor McGowanGregor McGowan – MCA Training Manager

Background

After spending a couple of seasons as a water sports instructor for UKSA, I decided to return here and work as a Yachtmaster instructor.

MCA Chief Mate (Yacht) 3,000 gross tonnes, MCA Master 200 gt (unlimited), MCA AEC, RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Examiner/Instructor

What I teach: Yachtmaster and Ocean Theory, General Ship Knowledge, ECDIS, STCW 2010

Rob BurtonRob Burton – MCA Instructor

Background

Started my career as a Dinghy instructor which led onto me getting my Ocean master and Ocean master Instructor. I then worked on Super Yachts for 8 years, cruising the Med, Caribbean, USA, Red Sea, UK, Baltic and Norway.

Qualifications & Experience

I hold the Chief Mate <3000 GT and Master <200 GT CoC

What I Teach: I teach the OOW modules of Nav & Radar, GSK and ECDIS

James PotipherJames Potipher – MCA Instructor

Background

Started working in the industry as a water sports instructor, teaching people to become future instructors. I transferred my skills form working water sports for 6 years into the yachting industry.

Qualifications & Experience

Master 200 and Advanced Powerboat instructor. I’m continually working to gain higher qualifications with the aim to get my Master 3000 ticket.

What I Teach: STCW course for new super yacht crew & PSCRB.

Why UKSA? ‘I want to give my knowledge and experience of the industry on to the future generation of superyacht crew’

Sailed deep sea commercially on oil tankers for 15 years as a deck officer.

What I Teach: I teach the MCA and STCW courses from greenhorns all the way up to masters.

Why UKSA? I came ashore and wanted to continue working in the maritime environment whilst being able to enjoy family life’

I teach a variety of specialist marine courses including GMDSS GOC and Masters Stability 3000.

What I Teach: GMDSS GOC, Master Stability 3000 (Yachting), Ship Security Officer, STCW PST, STCW PSSR & STCW PDSD.

Started as a Watersports instructor in 2008, specialised in outdoor activities and working with young people.

Fully qualified watersports instructor, ERCA working at Height and Generic Rescuer trained, Diploma in Leadership and Management level 3, MCA STCW & HELM Operational Level.

My role: MCA & Recreation training course advisor.
