We have welcomed seven new Ford Transit Custom Kombi vans to our Cowes campus, supplied by local Ford dealer Premier Ford.

As we have over 9,000 people through our doors every year, from schoolchildren to professional sailors, it was important to choose the right vehicles when we updated our shoreside fleet.

The new Transit Custom was International Van of the Year in 2013 and was designed and engineered at the Ford Dunton Technical Centre in Essex – the global centre of excellence for the company’s commercial vehicles and powertrain development. It is powered by a 2.2-litre Duratorq diesel engine built at the Ford Dagenham Engine plant, Essex.

Transit Custom offers class-leading load-carrying ability, including many innovative loadspace features such as the load-through hatch in the bulkhead for extra-long items. The driver also benefits from the latest Ford technologies like Lane Keeping Alert and Ford SYNC and it remains the only vehicle in its segment to achieve the maximum five-star rating from Euro NCAP.

UKSA’s Head of Operations Chris Frisby said: “We are hugely grateful to Premier Ford for supporting us as a charity by brokering the lease of these fantastic new vans. They look sleek and professional and we are enjoying using them.

“Soon the vans will sport the UKSA logo and people will no doubt start to spot them all over the Island as we are out and about delivering our courses. Thank you to Premier Ford for giving our charity such a boost.”

Ivan Ward, Local Business Specialist at Premier Ford, said: “It was a pleasure to supply these stunning new Ford Transit Custom 9 seat Kombi vans, which set the benchmark for efficiency and load space, combining the attributes of a tough commercial vehicle with all the modern safety and security features required by UKSA to transport children and equipment. We wish UKSA many miles of safe and reliable motoring.”
