Shoreside fun for all!
We have had a fantastic response from the public to our stand at Cowes Yacht Haven. People love the Try Sailing sessions which you can book on the day for just £5 each.
Our instructors whizz people out in a powerboat to reach our keelboats, then take them for an hour’s sail. Everyone comes back with a smile on their face and a newfound love for sailing.
Children have loved the gutterboat racing, which involves creating boats out of….well, anything really!
We’ve had boats ‘junk modelled’ out of plastic water bottles, bits of cardboard, doilies, straws and all sorts of unlikely items. Here Olympic gold-medallist Shirley Robertson dropped by to have a go:
Our instructors have been really engaged with the children, take a look at this photo of Jacob sitting on the floor with one little girl, busy creating their boat:
Ever imaginative, some of the team strung a few of the official Cowes Week wristbands together to create a giant skipping rope. This has proved quite a hit with passers by, young and old. They cost £1 each, and everyone’s wearing them!
Even the staff are having a go:
The T-shirts designed by famous designer Amanda Wakeley have attracted a lot of attention, and we have big smiles every time we sell one because proceeds are going to our fundraising campaign. They are £20 each, in either navy/white or white/orange. Have you bought yours yet?
We are also selling branded water bottles for £2 each.
Gipsy Moth IV is proving a draw. The iconic yacht is moored up in the haven and visitors are welcome on board. The braver ones can climb her mast – if they dare!
