This intensive 24 week Watersports Instructor Development programme will develop and progress qualified watersports instructors to the next stages of their watersports careers. You will work towards completing instructor advancement and further industry endorsements through the RYA and BSUPA. In addition to the practical qualifications you will also work towards the successful completion of a Level 3 Certificate in Sport (Outdoor pathways) awarded by national awarding organisation NCFE.

During the course you will also be supported with careers and employment advice in Industry Guidance sessions. These will assist you with the development of job searches, your CV and interview techniques. Candidates will also have access to the UKSA online job service and our impressive network of world wide contacts within the industry.

Entry requirements

  • Watersports Instructor Training qualification
  • 4 GCSE’s (A* – C) including English and Maths, desirable but not essential
  • GCSE PE (A* – C) desirable but not essential
  • Successful interview

How will I learn?

The study Watersports Instructor Development programme consists of a minimum of three days a week. If you don’t have the desired English, Maths and Science qualifications your study programme will extend to 5 days (which includes 2 days per week completing GCSE or Functional Skills in Maths and English at the IW College). Attendance is compulsory in all timetabled sessions.

At UKSA we value the importance of work experience as part of your training so that you can effectively succeed in your future employment. A number of weeks during your course will be dedicated to work experience at different sites and environments to broaden your understanding and experiences whilst providing you with valued networking opportunities.


With further endorsements to your existing watersports qualifications you will be able to seek worldwide employment opportunities. These additional tickets are very desirable to employers and increase your chances for sustainable employment where the next step for your career will be as a Senior Instructor.
