About DofE

Why a UKSA DofE residential?

A DofE residential is an opportunity for a young person to step outside of their usual environment, routine and social setting, giving them the opportunity to find out more about themselves and who they see themselves as.

During your residential course you will meet new people, work together on a boat for 5 days and develop key life skills, like team work and independence as well as gaining an RYA qualification. Explore life in an unfamiliar setting and have an experience that will change your perspective on who you are and what you can achieve.

To obtain your gold residential you must complete:
  • A five day / four night expedition or other adventurous project with at least eight hours each day of planned activity in wild or open country or on appropriate water.
  • Our maximum group size is 5 for these RYA Courses. Therefore if you are planning to use the course to sign off your Residential section, to comply with DofE Gold Residential guidelines you will need to join on your own and not with a friend or friendship group.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a fantastic recognition of a young person’s self-development through team building, volunteering and learning new skills. UKSA is a DofE Approved Activity Provider.

Who’s it for?

Whether you are completing your Gold DofE or want to learn new skills, anyone aged 16 to 25 years of age can join one of our sailing residential trips. On a residential trip you will make friends, share great memories and learn new skills and gain qualifications that look great on your CV.

We understand that joining as an individual may be daunting but you are guaranteed a warm welcome by our team. Previous residential groups have made friends for life and met up independently afterwards for adventures together.
