Dinghy Advanced

At UKSA we group the advanced sailing modules into two-course options:

RYA Seamanship Skills and RYA Day Sailing

The RYA Seamanship Skills syllabus will continue to polish and test your current skill level and will teach you to resolve problems afloat. The course will give you a solid foundation for the future and enable you to become a more confident and self-sufficient dinghy sailor. 

RYA Performance Sailing and RYA Sailing with Spinnakers

The RYA Performance Sailing syllabus will improve your boat handling and confidence in performance dinghies. Here you can practice your helming and crewing and work on smooth, fluent sailing performance. The RYA Sailing with Spinnaker syllabus is a great addition to the Performance Sailing syllabus as this course will cover the thrill and fun of learning to sail with trapezes and spinnakers including spinnaker work, using both symmetric and asymmetric spinnakers.

For this course, you will need:

• To be between 8 and 15 years old
• RYA Youth Stage Level 4
• If the participant meets the pre-requites for this course, but have not sailed within 6 months of their previous course, please be aware that a knowledge and skill gap may occur which could result in incompletion of the RYA stages advertised being signed off.
• Please note that in the case where not all sections of a previous level have been met, our chief instructor / watersports manager will review on a case-by-case basis as to whether they feel that the child is ready for the next level, and that they will have the opportunity to complete previous missed sections, without it disrupting the rest of the group.

RYA Seamanship and RYA Day Sailing

• Seamanship Skills – How to handle a boat in all circumstances and solve problems afloat
• Day Sailing – Passage planning and decision making for small boat cruising

RYA Performance Sailing and RYA Sailing with Spinnakers

• Sailing with Spinnakers – Everything you need to know about sailing with conventional or asymmetric spinnakers
• Performance Sailing – Improve your boat handling and confidence in performance dinghies.

Children are supervised at all times by our experienced and safeguard trained watersports instructor team throughout the day. 

Those on residential courses have access to their own dedicated kid’s area and evening activities programme run by our expert evening entertainments teams.

During this course participants will be working towards the course syllabus and RYA stages as advertised, however sign off and completion of the participants logbook will be dependent on their ability.

It is also important to note that while we have a fantastic instructor team and will do everything in our powers to ensure that outlined levels are completed, there may be external factors, such as weather, the level of the group or individuals, that may prevent this from happening.
