The RYA day skipper course provides an introduction to navigation, boat handling and skippering skills, leading to the ability to skipper a small yacht on short daylight passages in fair weather.
About the Course
The Day Skipper course is for aspiring Day Skippers and can be used to obtain an International Certificate of Competence and satisfies the minimum experience requirement for bare boat charter. This course concentrates on pilotage, navigation and boat handling under both sail and power. It will also improve your sail setting and deck work, as well as developing your knowledge and understanding of seamanship and safety issues. During the course you will be able to take charge of the yacht on short tidal passages, under the guidance of the instructor.
Similar to the day skipper shorebased course, this course includes all food and accommodation.
International Certificate of Competency (ICC ) Application

5 days aboard a yacht, including 100 miles sailed and 4 night hours.
You will also be required to have assumed knowledge of theory to the level of RYA Day Skipper, and be able to understand and calculate the following:

It is recommended you attend the RYA Day Skipper shorebased course beforehand.

DofE Gold Residential
A Gold DofE Residential requires you to spend five days and four nights away from home, taking part in a shared activity with people you’ve never met before. It’s about stepping outside your comfort zone, building new relationships, and developing independence in a completely new environment. The Maritime Futures programme meets the requirements for this award.
