What is a Superyacht Steward/Stewardess?

A superyacht steward or stewardess is a key member of the interior crew, responsible for delivering 5-star service to guests and ensuring the yacht’s interior is maintained to impeccable standards.

Duties range from housekeeping, laundry, and table service to cocktail making, guest entertainment, and personalised care.

GUEST Modules

Gain an understanding of life onboard a professional yacht, including crew roles, etiquette, safety awareness and daily routines. This module introduces the standards, expectations and fast-paced environment of the yachting industry, helping you build confidence before stepping onboard.

Learn the foundations of luxury yacht housekeeping, from cabin preparation and detailing to garment care and laundry procedures. Attention to detail, organisation and high service standards are key skills developed throughout this module.

Explore the essentials of professional service at sea, including table setting, guest interaction, service styles and onboard etiquette. This module focuses on creating a seamless guest experience while working efficiently as part of a crew.

Delivered in partnership with Island Roasted & Cafe Isola at their state of the art training facility you will will understand the history of coffee, tea, cocoa and herbal infusions, as well as the worldwide rituals and cultures for their preparation and service. With tuition on latte art, health & safety legislative practices, ingredient familiarity and the use of tools, you’ll be a coffee connoisseur after a training session with this family business.

Having been in the wine trade for 20 years, Matt Rogers (Director of Wight Wines) is the perfect person to teach you about wine production, comparative tasting/food pairing, and the principles of professional wine storage and service. You will also learn methods and techniques used to prepare cocktails, identify spirits and use the required tools for cocktail making. Cheers!

Learn to make the perfect bouquet with Summer Lily’s 20+ years of floristry experience. You will be taught the main elements and principles that are used in floral design including colour relationships, understanding of tools/equipment, care and maintenance of flowers/arrangements, and their preparation and planning – ready to make the interior of any superyacht a blooming beautiful sight!

GUEST Instructors

Central to the course is the globally recognised GUEST (Guidelines for Unified Excellence in Service Training) programme. Introducing guest instructors Luisa Parson and Georgina Hollick, currently working in the industry as Chief Stewardesses.

They will be taking time out of their rotations to bring extensive knowledge of the industry and the skills needed to provide the excellent levels of service expected onboard luxury vessels.

Luisa Parson

Luisa has a wealth of experience on some well known vessels, including as Chief Stew/Purser on board motor yachts Silver Fox (48 metres) and Utopia (72 metres). Luisa also worked as a Stewardess/Personal trainer on board 59m motoryacht Meamina and as Lead Housekeeper aboard 55m motoryacht Lili.

Georgina Hollick

Georgina has worked both at-sea and in high end shore-based hospitality, with roles as a House Manager on private estates/properties, Housekeeping & Interior Trainer for Royal Yachts and Palaces exclusive Butler School in Abu Dhabi, and Chief Stewardess on 92m motor yacht Tattoosh.

What to expect

Start your training at UKSA by learning essential skills involved in the role of Steward or Stewardess onboard a superyacht with a variety of Guest Modules, whilst also receiving fundamental training on how to look after your mental health – and that of your crew’s -whilst at sea.

Make your CV look spectacular by earning a range of qualifications during your time at UKSA, including your RYA Marine Short Range radio, STCW Basic Safety Training and Proficiency in Designated Security Duties.

Stand out from the crowd with further training and qualifications as you take to the sea and learn to safely drive a powerboat during your Powerboat Level 2, whilst diversifying your knowledge by learning about deck-work on board a superyacht.

At 18, Molly was working in hospitality and exploring career options when she discovered UKSA’s Superyacht Stewardess course. 

Since completing her training, Molly has worked as a stewardess aboard a superyacht, traveling to various destinations. Her daily duties include crew laundry, restocking the crew mess, cleaning the bridge and passageways, and, during the season, serving meals and drinks to guests. Molly aspires to progress in the industry and aims to become a Chief Stewardess in the future.​

About the Course

The UKSA Superyacht Stewardess/Steward Course is a three-week, all-inclusive training programme designed to prepare you for a professional career aboard luxury yachts. With no prior experience required, you’ll live and train at UKSA’s waterfront campus where accommodation and three daily meals are fully included, creating an immersive environment that mirrors life on board.

Throughout the course, you’ll gain key maritime qualifications such as STCW Basic Safety Training, Powerboat Level 2, and VHF Radio, alongside hospitality-focused training through the globally recognised GUEST programme. This includes service, housekeeping, barista skills, floristry, and wine and cocktail presentation.

Alongside expert instruction, UKSA provides career support including CV workshops, job interview prep, and access to its extensive crew agency network – giving you the tools, confidence, and connections to launch a successful career in the superyacht industry.

Safety and Maritime Certifications:

  • Level 2 Award in Food Safety / Food Hygiene
  • Mental Health for Seafarers

Additionally, upon successful completion of the introductory modules, you will be eligible to apply for the GUEST Certificate of Competence.

Interior crew are typically required to work long hours and must be physically fit and able. You must be energetic and enthusiastic with an ability to work to a high standard in all tasks. Some previous experience in hospitality is a great bonus, but not at all necessary to join the training. Also if you have aligned experience in beauty, food and beverages, catering, wine and art appreciation, massage, sports and training, these extra skills will also be useful in your career progression.

You must have an ENG1 seafarer medical fitness certificate to work at sea. Whilst it’s not essential to hold your ENG1 to complete your training with UKSA, it is required to hold this to secure work in the industry. For this reason, we recommend all students gain their ENG1 before they attend training.
