Maritime Advanced Programme

Our 2-year NCFE Level 3 Diploma program offers comprehensive knowledge of the sports and outdoor industry. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience by leading sessions as coaches or instructors. The curriculum includes detailed study of anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and the principles and practices of the outdoor adventure industry.

About the Course

Students actively participate in practical and classroom-based session where they learn about the principles and practices of the outdoor adventurous industry, environmental impact and sustainability, personal and professional development and career planning, plus many more, which are covered during the course.

On completion you will be ready to work within the vast sectors of sport and outdoor industries or train further to enter into higher education at degree level (through accumulated UCAS points) which will be required to study the Foundation degree as part of the Superyacht Cadetship pathway.

This course is funded as part of a full-time 16-18 year old further education (FE) programme.

  • Minimum of 5 x Grade 4 and above GCSEs including English and Maths
  • An interest in outdoor education, maritime industry or watersports
  • Successful interview at UKSA
  • Completion of interview day set task

2-year full time course attending UKSA 4 days a week minimum. 50% of your training will be practical based with the remaining 50% theory.

Attendance is compulsory in all timetabled sessions

Year 1 – Work towards achieving*

  • RYA First Aid 

  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 

  • RYA Marine Short-Range Radio Certificate 

  • Paddle UK Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Course 

  • Paddle UK Paddlesport Instructor 

  • Water-based activities (SUP, Keelboating, Kayaking, Dinghy Sailing) 

  • Ropework and anchoring 

  • RYA Dinghy Level 1 & 2

NCFE Level 3 Modules*

  • Preparing for a Career in Sport 

  • Practical Individual Sports 

  • Principles and Practices in Outdoor Adventure 

  • Environmental Education for Outdoor Adventurous Activities

Year 2 – Work towards achieving*

  • RYA Dinghy Instructor (subject to completing Levels, prerequisites and Pre Entry) 

  • RYA Safe and Fun 

  • RYA Safety Boat 

  • Water-based activities (SUP, Keelboating, Multihull Sailing, Windsurfing, Dinghy Sailing) 

  • Industry Guidance including CV and Interview preparation and careers days 

  • Industry visits such as Southampton Boat Show, RYA Dinghy Show, Red Funnel, Royal Navy, Cowes Harbour Commission and Yacht Haven

On full completion of this course, learners gain the experience and qualifications to apply for various job opportunities, apprenticeships, further training within the maritime industry or higher education. This can include:

Once completed, applications will be processed, an interview date will be sent out by email. All interviews are conducted by UKSA Education Tutors – interviews will be 1:1 and will include the completion of a set task. This will be stated in the letter sent by the Isle of Wight College.
