Milo Hanlon fund
Supporting young people with big dreams and limited means to launch their careers in the marine industry.
Michael Hanlon – known to many as Milo – was a gifted and passionate watersports instructor, known for his infectious energy and natural talent for teaching, especially with children. In 2012, Milo received sponsorship from Seafarers UK to complete UKSA’s Superyacht Cadetship.
After successfully finishing his first year, he secured his first job aboard a superyacht – the beginning of a promising career.
Tragically, Milo passed away at the age of just 22 on 7th April 2013, while working in the South of France. In his memory, Milo’s family and UKSA established this fund to honour his achievements and help others follow in his footsteps.
If you’d like to contribute to the Milo Hanlon Fund, donations are gratefully received via our JustGiving page.
The fund supports young people aged 17-25 who, in Milo’s family’s words, have “done it the hard way – just like Milo.”
It is intended for those with limited financial support who are passionate about building a career in the marine industry.
Some of the funding has been specifically reserved for residents of the Lake District, where Milo was from.
Our dedicated Course Advisers will assess your eligibility, advise on available bursaries and funding routes and guide you through the application process.
