UKSA Celebrates World Sailing Day 2026
Today, UKSA is proud to celebrate World Sailing Day 2026 – a global initiative dedicated to inspiring more people to discover sailing, watersports and maritime careers.
Held annually on 28 May, World Sailing Day brings together sailing schools, maritime organisations, yacht clubs, ports, training providers and sailing communities from across the world to celebrate the opportunities created through life on the water.
Inspired by the legacy of Sir Francis Chichester’s famous yacht Gipsy Moth IV, World Sailing Day highlights the importance of sailing, maritime education, adventure training and the wider marine industry while encouraging more people to get out on the water for the very first time.
UKSA also shares a unique connection with Gipsy Moth IV itself. In 2004, the iconic yacht famously sailed solo around the world by Sir Francis Chichester was rescued and restored by UKSA before embarking on a second global voyage focused on youth development and opportunity. The project gave young people the chance to experience life-changing sailing adventures while preserving one of Britain’s most celebrated sailing vessels – a legacy that continues to reflect UKSA’s commitment to inspiring future generations through life on the water.
