A trip to last a lifetime

Calling all school trip organisers … are you stuck for educational field trip ideas for your KS3+ students? When organising your next residential visit, why not consider a natural sciences trip to the Isle of Wight and make use of UKSA’s brilliant basecamp package?

Exploring the Isle of Wight

This year-round package allows visiting residential groups to use our three-star hostel accommodation as a base from which to explore the incredible Isle of Wight. Renowned for its geology, ecology, geography, sumptuous scenery and historic buildings, there are few places that can offer you more memorable educational trips. With weather similar to England’s South Coast, the yearly calendar is peppered with fascinating outdoor field activities. The Island is still largely rural, with summertime wildflower-spiked hedgerows, unspoiled downland, and chines, and with minimal light pollution, the night sky is truly something to behold – a treat for astronomy students.

Things to do on the Isle of Wight

With over 70 miles of diverse coastline, estuaries, hidden coves and woodland, the Island is a paradise for natural sciences students. Some of Europe’s richest quarries of dinosaur fossils, bones and footprints can be found in coastal areas such as Yaverland Beach – over the years this area has given up 30 million-year-old fossilised molluscs, crocodiles and turtles. For lovers of history and archaeology, there are Roman villas, ruined abbeys, the castle where King Charles I was imprisoned during the civil war and the royal residence of Queen Victoria.

Isle of Wight accommodation

UKSA can offer you a warm, clean, secure place to stay with delicious breakfasts included from £33 per person per night. A 4-night/5-day visit including half board and return ferry in a small minibus would be from £199 per student. For every 10 students, one leader goes free of charge (with a minimum of 10 students). UKSA’s basecamp package includes full use of UKSA’s leisure facilities.
