Case studies

Emily Preece

Emily had just finished her A-Levels when she became aware of UKSA through a family friend that had studied there, this would be the beginning of her journey to becoming a Chief Stewardess.

“UKSA was so welcoming,” Emily started after we asked her about what life was like at UKSA. “It was enjoyable, uplifting and inspiring!” During her time training to become a Stewardess Emily would have had a packed and exciting schedule, with some days spent learning to arrange flowers, others at the fireground to earn her STCW, and then back to UKSA to learn to make the perfect cocktail.

Since graduating in 2021, Emily has worked her way up the ranks to become a Chief Stewardess onboard a Superyacht. “Since leaving UKSA my life has involved a lot of service, a lot of flower arranging, cocktail making and crew management.”

“A typical day for me starts with answering emails, breakfast service and liaising with guests for the day’s plans. Lunch comes next, followed by cocktails and canapes before we set for dinner. Once dinner and digestif has been served and cleared, I will head back to my cabin to finish off some admin and look and schedules and plans for the next day, then it’s time to get some well earned rest.”

Emily is loving life in her role, and looking ahead at what she might want to do in the future responded, “My long term plans would be to keep working as a Chief Stewardess, but to work on a 65-75m single season charter vessel on rotation as well.”

When asked what advice Emily would offer to anyone considering the Superyacht Steward/ess training, she replied, “DO IT! The worst feeling is regret and wishing you did something when you had access to it all along.”
