Longlands Primary

Longlands Primary have travelled down from Kent to visit UKSA ever since 2017, joining us this year with 36 Year 6 students in June. We spoke to Michelle Short, Trip Coordinator, about how she felt this years’ trip went.

“The trip was a great success, the children were introduced to a variety of different activities and experiences that they would not be introduced to if they didn’t get the opportunity to attend this school trip.” Michelle explained, recounting the many activities the young people

would have experienced included kayaking, keelboat sailing, paddleboarding and team games. “We have seen their confidence grow, as well as their independence. They are more determined to try new things.”

We asked Michelle if there was anything in particular she felt her students would take back to the classroom, “The children are more resilient and their friendship groups have been built on and made stronger.” She explained, Michelle even shared withus some quotes directly from the children themselves:

  • “That was the best trip and best thing I have done in my life!”
  • “I learned how to sail a boat, and never thought I’d be able to do that”
  • “I liked the paddleboarding, and the pancakes were so good”

Michelle emphasised that as well as the activities, the children always mentioned how much they enjoyed the food upon their return to school!

Longlands Primary would not have been able to attend without the support of the Leave No Child Behind fund, “We are so grateful for the support to ensure that no child is left behind, and to the team who are so passionate about what they do and helped to inspire our children.”
