Why choose UKSA?

Funded development programmes

We continue to provide funded development programmes which aim to develop both life and work skills for 12-24 year old’s. By collaborating with partners in the youth and training centres, we are able to support young people and help access employment and further training.

Measuring impact

We measure the impact of our development programmes using our skills for life framework, focusing on six key soft skills:

  • Communication
  • Decision Making
  • Participation
  • Self-Belief
  • Determination
  • Resilience

Young people completing our development programmes record an increase in the above skills at the end of the our programmes.

Making a difference in our community

Thanks to our donors, partners and supporters on the Isle of Wight we have been able to broaden the opportunities available to young islanders. In 2018, 964 children aged between 10-11 came to UKSA for a free water session as part of our ‘Test the Water’ programme. This popular scheme has now been running for 5 years. As of September 2019, every secondary school pupil on the Isle of Wight should have had the opportunity to experience sailing with us.

I would recommend the UKSA experience to any other educational establishment without reservation. The week we visit UKSA is unadulterated fun for all involved. The staff and pupils have such a unique experience which boosts friendships, challenges self -belief and overall builds character.
