Caring for our oceans

Oceans cover 71% of the Earth and hold an estimated 80% of the Earth’s mineral resources. Everyday approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans. Plastics consistently make up 60 to 90% of all the marine debris studied.

Our response

At UKSA we are passionate about the sea; it sits at the heart of everything we do.  We have substantially reduced single-use plastics and are proud to have put the following in place:

  • Separate food waste, recycling and land fill
  • Compostable sandwich containers, wraps, cutlery
  • All students and staff use a re-usable mug and water bottle
  • Recycle crisp packets through Terracycle
  • Do not use single use condiments, sauces, glasses or cups
  • Paper straws and stirrers in the bar
  • Environmentally friendly boat cleaning products
  • Waterless urinals
