Colette Wood

UKSA Industry Guidance Advisor

Your time at UKSA will play a big part in your career

UKSA’s courses equip you with the right skills to embark on a successful career that could take you anywhere in the world. Colette Wood did exactly that and travelled all over the world on superyachts, before she was drawn back home, and returned to UKSA to work for us. Colette shares her story:

Before starting her training with us, Colette worked at a country club on the Isle of Wight. She came to UKSA to take our Superyacht Hospitality Training course. Colette made the most of the opportunities available, adding both the bolt-on options offered by UKSA – the Superyacht Cookery Foundation and RYA Competent Crew qualifications – to her course.

“UKSA’s courses equip you with the right skills to embark on a successful career that could take you anywhere in the world.”

Looking back on her experience, Colette reflects, “I enjoyed all of it if I am honest. I enjoyed doing my Competent Crew course a lot more than I thought I was going to and I especially loved the firefighting training and the cookery.”

Colette explains about her education at UKSA, “Everything I learned was valuable and I used all of the knowledge I gained from my UKSA course whilst working onboard superyachts.” After completing her course with us, Colette secured a job as a sole stewardess, working on a 25m motor yacht for six months. And subsequently, her career has been working on a 45m sailing yacht and racing it in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.”

Be prepared to work and study hard but also enjoy your time

After making the decision to come back home to the UK, Colette found her perfect job here at UKSA as an Industry Guidance Advisor. When asked what advice she would give to someone starting out at UKSA, Colette replied, “Be prepared to work and study hard but also enjoy your time here. You will find you refer to it a lot when you leave and go to work on yachts or in watersports – your time at UKSA will play a big part in your career.”
