Demi Pearson

I am now living a life I thought I could only dream of and couldn’t recommend this enough to anybody wanting to travel the world whilst meeting new people and making a good money.

With the superyacht industry experiencing year-on-year growth, there is an increasing need for highly trained interior hospitality crew. UKSA’s Superyacht Stewardess and Steward Training course provides stewards and stewardesses with the necessary qualifications, practical skills, industry guidance, knowledge and support required to embark on a career in the luxury industry.

25 year old Demi from Suffolk had been working at Tesco as a Team Leader/Community Champion when she met a chef skiing who worked on superyachts.

“I thought that would be something I’d love to do but had no idea where to start.  I came across the page of a stewardess on Tik Tok who was documenting how to get into the industry and she recommended UKSA. After calling up and speaking to one of the course advisers who was super helpful and explained to me everything I needed to do, I managed to get booked onto the August 2023 course.”

After graduating from UKSA at the end of August, Demi managed to secure her first job in September as a day worker on a 98m private motor yacht. She then went into a permanent position as a stewardess/masseuse on a 60 metre privately owned motor yacht and has now been there for three months travelling around the Caribbean islands and says  “I couldn’t be happier.”

A typical day for Demi when off trip, consists of rotating between housekeeping, laundry and dealing with inventory along  with her fellow crew. “When we have our owners on board I am predominantly house keeping and provide massages/facials when requested. It is hard work but it is so rewarding. “

Long term, Demi would love to become a chief stew one day but for now  she says she’s content with learning how to be the best stewardess she can be.

“I think a good bit of advice to anybody wanting to get into the industry would be try to get some sort of work/experience within housekeeping / hospitality before setting off as this will give you a head start and could make you stand out as a greenie. I also would say to not get disheartened if you feel like you are applying for roles and are not hearing anything back, keep applying, keep trying, keep in contact with as many agencies as you can and refreshing your job search pages each day. It might feel like it’s never going to happen but it will if you want it bad enough and it will be so worth it when it does.”

UKSA’s waterside campus is a short stroll away from restaurants and bars providing great nights out, and the Isle of Wight offers some beautiful scenic walks that Demi enjoyed in her free time away from the course. The onsite bar was also a convenient and fun way to socialise and meet new people from other courses.

“I can honestly say my time at UKSA was the best experience and really gave me the confidence to set off into the yachting world. I am now living a life I thought I could only dream of and couldn’t recommend this enough to anybody wanting to travel the world whilst meeting new people and making a good money.”
