Published 11/08/2022

UKSA is very proud to support our local young people with a stream of education and training courses; offering pathways into employment in the maritime sector. These opportunities are available for anyone from any background, with funding available to help them start a career on the water and to make the most of living on the Isle of Wight.

Our Sea.Change Foundation, supported by the Prince’s Trust, gives Island young people the opportunity to explore the vast range of employment and training options in the Maritime sector whilst making friends and experiencing new challenges on the water. This fully funded 5 day programme is available for all Island 14-19 year olds during the school holidays. If you are aged 16-19 , our two fully funded Further Education programmes offer an exciting alternative to more traditional college settings, and a chance to train alongside professionals already working in the industry:

The Maritime Foundation, for students yet to pass GCSEs, is a progressive program with a large focus on practical experience and qualifications that enable employment in the Maritime sector.

NCFE Level 3 in Adventurous Outdoor Activities is for young people with a GCSE’s looking to build on their academic success whilst developing new skills as instructors and working towards UCAS points allowing entry to higher education.

UKSA’s Watersports Academy is aimed at young adults (18-25), to gain qualifications to work as a watersports instructor. On completion of the course, successful candidates will be guaranteed employment for two seasons as UKSA, gaining valuable work experience working with children from a variety of schools and groups.

We are soon to launch a new Apprenticeships Scheme, with UKSA developing further careers pathways for Island young people. This programme will allow the students to earn money whilst training in growing sectors;  making the most of the Islands Maritime location and heritage. We will be bring you more news on this very soon.

UKSA is also soon to launch a Kick Start into Watersports programme. This will offer 18-24 year old Island young people on Universal Credit, the opportunity to gain training and work experience at UKSA for 6 months over the summer, whilst being paid to work 25 hours a week.
