My experience of the STCW course at UKSA, by Phil Ryder:
I recently completed my STCW basic training (also referred to as STCW95) with UKSA and wanted to say a few words to thank them.
The 5 day course was a great mix of time in the classroom and hands-on practical exercises in the pool and on the fire training field.
The instructors were great. We spent most of the week with Rob who was a great, down to earth guy and a fantastic teacher. His knowledge of the subject matter was amazing and it was of great comfort to have him with us during the fire fighting, which although was great fun, was a very nerve racking time.
The whole complex at UKSA was very impressive, from the training facilities themselves (heated pool and fire training field), to the dining room and bar over-looking the marina, which was great to relax at the end of the day with a couple of drinks to a great view.
Maybe the greatest thing about doing my this course was the people I met. It was fantastic to train with like-minded people to myself, all of whom have similar ambitions to me, and really made me feel I have started the networking process already which is so important in this industry.
Many thanks to all the team at UKSA, and I look forward to coming back in the future to further my training in the maritime industry.
UKSA’s STCW Basic Safety Training is priced at £875 and courses run regularly.
